Wyclef And Queen Latifah Among Performers In Nelson Mandela Tribute | MUSIC NEWS

An all-star cast has been assembled to honor the 91st birthday of former South African president, Nelson Mandela.

Dubbed ‘Mandela Day,’ the event will focus on the idea “that each individual has the ability to make an imprint.” The tribute show will encourage participants to get involved in unique ways to honor Mandela instead of sitting on the sidelines.

Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, TLC and Queen Latifah are among the many acts scheduled to perform.

In addition to the concert, Mandela Day organizers are not asking participants for monetary donations—they want time. “Mr. Mandela has spent 67 years making the world a better place,” the MandelaDay.com Web site reads. “We’re asking you for 67 minutes.”

The site allows users to sign up and pledge their time to make their respective communities a better place. As of press time, 113,222 minutes have been pledged.
